MWC Announces New Executive Director


Thamara Labrousse named Executive Director

of the Miami Workers Center

(December 19, 2012) Miami, FL – The Board of Directors of the Miami Workers Center (MWC) is pleased to announce that Thamara Labrousse has officially been named Executive Director.  Ms. Labrousse, MWC’s former Interim Executive Director since February of this year, will lead the mission to build the power and leadership of low-income and working class communities of color for racial, economic, and gender equality.  Ms. Labrousse is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of experience in social and human service settings.

Board chair Rosalie ‘Cookie’ Whiley says, “Thamara Labrousse is someone who wants to make a difference in the community and has a proven track record in nonprofit management. We’re confident she is the perfect individual to move us toward our new goals.”

Prior to joining MWC, Ms. Labrousse served as Vice President of Strategic Partners, a consulting firm based in Miami and Atlanta that specializes in strengthening the infrastructure of nonprofit and government entities. Her other professional expertise includes leadership positions with Switchboard of Miami, including Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, and Helpline Director where she was instrumental in the development of best practice standards for the operation of Information and Referral Centers and Crisis Intervention Hotlines in the U.S. Ms. Labrousse also spearheaded fundraising, planning and implementation activities that resulted in the successful realization of Miami-Dade County's 2-1-1 system. She is an expert in strategic planning, board governance, human resource management, fundraising and program development and evaluation.

Ms. Labrousse is a double Barry University alumnus, receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Public Administration and a Masters of Science degree in Management. She is a graduate of two prestigious local leadership training programs, Leadership Miami (Class of 2003) and the Miami Fellow's Initiative (Class III). Ms. Labrousse is a board member of the Jessie Trice Community Family Health Center, Sant La, the Haitian Neighborhood Center, and Girl Power.
