Organization Overview:

The Miami Workers Center (MWC) is a strategy and action center whose purpose is to build the power and self-determination of south Florida’s most oppressed communities. We employ an intersectional approach linking gender, race, and socio-economic status understanding the contributions and needs of women, girl and femme must be the basis for a social justice agenda. We work to unite and grow the power of low-income Black and Brown folx from some of the most vulnerable neighborhoods of Miami. We fight for good paying jobs, affordable housing, immigrant rights, the protection of domestic workers and victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.


Job Description

The Staff and Policy Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining a productive inside/outside strategy to promote the Miami Workers Center strategy through political discourse; to advance, protect and defend low income black and brown women, girls and femme rights. The staff and policy director will develop and execute strategies for base building, mobilization, and building coalitions with partners, allies and staff.  He/She/They will also supervise staff working on multiple issue campaigns.  The Staff and Policy Director reports directly to the Executive Director.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and implement political strategies to enact MWC vision, regarding to key issue areas related to legislation and policies
  • Design and implement MWC’s organizing and membership model with Executive Director and staff.
  • Oversee MWC issue campaigns, that include but are not limited to, gender justice, economic justice, environmental and climate justice, housing and criminalization. 
  • Lead and supervise staff in personal, professional development & work plan development and implementation, planning and implementation of local events, membership growth and campaigns   
  • Develop and maintain alliance-building relationships with key political and community representatives, current and former elected officials (and their administration), government policy decision makers and donors.
  • Contribute to the development of overall South Florida strategy on multiple issue campaigns.
  • Manage the day-to-day implementation of approved political programs, including the development of campaign plans, accountability systems and campaign materials. 
  • Tracking state and local legislation, policy developments, and analysis.
  • Oversee policy research and analysis using a variety of platforms and conversations with staffers, etc.     
  • Building the Femme Power Leadership Institute curriculum to include pipeline to candidacy for women of color interested in political office. 
  • Represent MWC through national, statewide and local plans. 
  • Work alongside the MWC Communications Department in support of narrative, media and digital campaigns. 


Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicant must share a commitment to the organization's mission and have 3-5 years of organizing and/or political campaign experience. 
  • 2 - 3 years in supervising staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute political plans.
  • Strong Gender Justice Lens
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, motivational skills and desire for social change are essential.
  • Experience in building and maintaining multi-sector alliances.
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills: working knowledge of campaign databases
  • Office Suite.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Haitian Creole OR Spanish.
  • Familiarity with 501(c)3 rules
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation; travel is required throughout the state. This position is in Miami and occasionally requires travel throughout the state and nationally and sometimes international.
  • Available for occasional weekend and late hours
