Women working as nannies, house cleaners, and home health aides in Miami share their story and fight for worker protections.
“When I started doing care work, I thought to myself, I’m gonna give each person the care that my grandmother did not get and that my grandmother deserved. We are workers like any other workers. We deserve a dignity, respect, protection from sexual harassment, protection from discrimination.”
– June Barrett, home health aide of 20+ years
It’s time for a Miami Domestic Workers Bill of Rights!
To lift up the workers who keep our economy going, throughout Care Worker Recognition Month, we’ll be sharing the stories of Miami’s domestic workers as they organize, educate, and fight for their right to:
✅ A written contract
✅ Safety and protection against harassment and discrimination
✅ Privacy at work
Nearly 60,000 domestic workers provide quality care to their clients everyday in Miami-Dade, making it possible for others to go to work knowing their loved ones are safe and cared for. Despite their hard work and sacrifice, women in the care industry are met with disrespect, low wages, and a lack of worker protections.
That’s why home health aides, nannies, and house cleaners in Miami are uniting with the Miami Workers Center and WeCount! to demand better conditions and win a Domestic Worker Bill of Rights in Miami-Dade County
Listen to their testimonies of strength, vulnerability, and the personal sacrifices each worker makes to provide care to Miami’s communities.
Lift up their voices by sharing these stories in your online and offline networks.
