Comrades and Supporters,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and safe in this extreme summer heat. Here you’ll find updates on what we’ve been up to and the campaigns we’re advancing to win meaningful changes in our communities and our lives. At MWC, members and organizers are working diligently to move forward campaigns that demand our local government do everything in their power to mobilize resources to meet the needs of the people, whose labor and contributions our economy relies on.
“We cannot treasure development over the well-being of our families, because the true treasure is us. Because without the work of our families the developers and landlords could not make a living.” – Yoselin, mother, tenant, and member leader of MWC
Tenants and members are knocking on doors and making calls weekly to engage with hundreds of tenants about the eviction crisis. We’re gearing up to mobilize in September to advocate for our Tenant Protection Priorities in Our County Budget – including funding for Eviction Diversion Project that has been providing families facing eviction with free legal representation, and ERAP, a rental assistance program that has been a lifeline for so many families. Take action with us – Call your County Commissioner, tell them to fund tenant protections, and invite your people to take action with you. It’s going to take all of us!
Organizing Updates
Housing Justice Community Meeting
As we advance our housing justice campaigns, we’re grounded in other strategies to building tenant power, like forming tenant unions with our neighbors so that we can organize for better conditions in our neighborhoods.
Our next meeting will be this week August 23 at 6pm
On the Path Domestic Worker Bill of Rights
Together with WeCount, we are fighting for protection, dignity, and respect for the 60,000 domestic workers in Miami-Dade.

Upcoming Events
Getting to the Root of Miami’s Housing Crisis: A Town Hall by Tenants, for Tenants
With the Miami-Dade County Budget Hearings coming up soon, we want our voices as tenants to be heard. Developers are building, yet working-class people are still not getting clear solutions to the housing crisis.
Join us for a town hall on August 30 to discuss how MWC is making demands to support tenants in staying housed and winning better conditions.
Member Corner
Tenant Power Fellowship
Members stepped into their leadership by committing to a 3-week organizing fellowship that developed their skills and engaged with 1,000+ tenants on the doors and over the phone on the issue of housing and affordability. Their hard work and contributions make our movements stronger!
Back to School Beach Day
Dozens of members got together to enjoy leisure time with their families and comrades at the beach. With food on the grill, children laughing, and the sun shining down, we’re reminded that working people deserve more time to relax and have fun.
Women’s Circle
Our latest Women’s Circle brought together women to learn more about the financial system of credit – where to find your score, how reporting works, and more.
Committee Updates
Our member-led committees drive the work forward through democratic participation, recruitment, leadership development, and campaign strategy.
Domestic worker committees Las Defensoras del Hogar and Fanm Vayan are focused on reaching nannies, housekeepers, and home-health aides/CNAs and expanding the campaign for a Domestic Worker Bill of Rights with our partner WeCount! Learn more about MWC Care Worker Committees
Tenant organizing committees Tenant Defense and Section 8 + HUD Tenants are building towards a mass mobilization to the County Budget in September where we’ll be calling on our County Commissioners to fund tenant protections. Take action with us!
