Miami Workers Center is seeking a full-time Organizing Director that will oversee and implement the organization’s grassroots campaigns and policy/structural interventions to advance the rights of working class tenants and workers across Miami-Dade County. The Organizing Department will supervise the organizing department and staff and report directly to the Executive Director.

Who You Are:

You are an experienced organizer with base-building, leadership development, popular education. You are committed to the values of racial, economic, and gender justice and have a well-developed understanding of the social justice movement in particular housing, labor, and gender justice. You have experience ideating, developing, executing, and winning grassroots campaigns. You believe in working in coalitions with partners, allies, community, and staff.  You have supervisory and coaching experience in managing staff,  building short and long term goals and workplans, and holding people accountable. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Lead all base building efforts to maintain our existing base and recruit new dues paying members to build power of our base.
  • Co-design,  execute, manage, and evaluate grassroots campaigns and programs designed to transform material conditions for working-class tenants and workers in Miami-Dade County. 
  • Build an organizing team culture that is innovative, hungry to learn, and inspired to create tangible changes for working-class communities–including rigorous base building, popular education and leadership development.
  • Mentor, train, and supervise organizers and member leaders in the execution of outreach, membership recruitment, campaign strategy and escalation through weekly meetings, work plans, and constructive feedback 
  • Remain abreast of current events and assess the impact of the socio-political, environmental, and economic context on our base and campaign strategy.
  • Co-develop popular education curriculum for membership orientations, trainings, workshops, and institutes
  • Build relationships with strategic coalition partners to advance campaign aims and leverage points for potential policy interventions and mobilizations
  • Support our internal operations including managing our member database, tracking our organizing department budget and finances, tracking outcomes and writing reports, and supporting the administrative work of leading our team. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications & Experience: 

    • Applicant must share a commitment to the organization’s mission; including a strong commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice and their intersections,
    • Experience in campaign development and execution for labor, housing, gender,  and/or immigrant rights.
    • Experience training and developing staff and community members in organizing, community advocacy and/or political operations.
    • Demonstrable focus, resilience, and the problem-solving skill to develop solutions under challenging circumstances.
    • Impeccable writing, presentation and oral communication skills, as well as an ability to synthesize and translate complicated information into clear, compelling language.
    • Ability to think critically, make decisions, and justify recommendations based on data and analysis.
    • Ability to excel in a high paced environment with diverse teams of staff, members and partners;
    • Ability to relate to people of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds;
    • Fluency in English is required, and capacity in Spanish or Creole is recommended;
    • Ability to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends;
    • Valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation. 

Compensation and benefits: Salary is $70,000  Generous benefits package including health insurance, and vacation for full-time employees.

Reports To: Executive Director at the Miami Workers Center

The Miami Workers Center is seeking a full-time Worker Cooperative Administrator that will be responsible for the successful operation of two worker-led cooperatives, a cleaning cooperative and a home health staffing cooperative.

The Administrator is responsible for overseeing members’ work and the successful delivery of services aligning with the membership’s best interests. This role must maintain a superior level of financial reporting and be able to work collaboratively with the membership and across cultures. The administrator must be able to make recommendations on policy and process and problem-solve under pressure.

The role will carry on the business of the cooperatives under the direction set by the board of directors of the cooperatives and the Executive Director and will act on the member’s behalf in all matters related to the cooperative’s operations. The administrator will not have the authority to hire or fire members of the cooperative.

Who You Are:

You are a dynamic, strategic, self-starter who has demonstrated experience managing small businesses with diverse people. You are mission-driven and excited about developing new skills and relationships. You have excellent emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. You are someone who is interested in practicing a collaborative form of management, someone who can strike a balance between deciding with the workers and acting independently on behalf of the businesses. While the basic functions of running a cooperative business are the same as running a non-cooperative business, the administrator at a cooperative must also be able to foster a community that empowers and uplifts members. As a person new to the cooperative business model, you find excitement in  learning new ways of work and unlearning old ideas and practices, and have a strong interest in building relationships with the workers, the members and our staff to be the key piece that binds it all together. You are looking to make an impact and advance effective efforts for building the power of working-class people who call Miami home

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  1. Directs daily business activities of the cooperative
  2. Identifies and implements the organizational and management structure and processes, such as client management system and customer satisfaction process
  3. Provides leadership in the development of strategic long-range plans that include an established process of checking in with workers, creating a system for continuous feedback and improvement on the business’ operations
  4. Provides direction in formulating programs and policies that are guided and in the best interest of the cooperatives
  5. Support the efforts of members to grow and manage their cooperative businesses through individual and group leadership and development coaching
  6. Provides leadership on data collection, recording, and reporting systems
  7. Facilitate regular team meetings and share goals and results
  8. Liaison to Board of Directors: report progress and make recommendations; develop an annual operating budget with input from managers and submit to the Board for approval; assist in the review of the cooperative’s financial status
  9. Manage financial resources according to budget and revenue projections
  10. Participates in the hiring, orientation, and development of all staff
  11. Supervises and manages all staff, including goal setting and peer performance reviews
  12. Manages HR matters, including conducting investigations regarding complaints, workers comp, unemployment, and other issues
  13. Negotiates and manages contracts and rates, including with vendors
  14. Ensures development of relationships and contractual agreements with third-party payers, other vendors, and the business community; assures compliance with contracts/agreements
  15. Ensures licensing, accreditation and compliance with the law
  16. Monitors local and federal legislative, community, and third-party payer issues that impact the cooperative

Qualifications

  1. Strong leadership, supervision, and administrative skills demonstrated in positions of increasing responsibility in business, preferably in health care and/or cleaning
  2. Ability to handle multiple complex problems simultaneously and make decisions under pressure
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  4. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to navigate interpersonal challenges
  5. Knowledge of the regulatory requirements impacting home care at the state, federal and local levels
  6. Knowledge of business and financial management
  7. Fluency in either Spanish or Haitian Creole

As a Van Driver, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting members and participants to various locations as required by the organization. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that members are transported on time and in accordance with organization standards. The ideal candidate will possess excellent driving skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and a commitment to safety.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and clean environment within the vehicle while transporting members and their children (i.e. proper discipline techniques, knowledge of emergency procedures, etc.)
  • Arrive at pick-up and drop-off points in a timely manner
  • Follow up with members on your route to ensure if they need assistance
  • Transport members to functions including pick up, drop off, social and special events.
  • Informing Operations team when gas is required post shifts 
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection on vehicles prior to driving; reports any noticeable mechanical defects; tires, brakes, signals, mechanical equipment, etc.) before and after each trip
  • Following reporting procedures for minor/major accidents or traffic infractions
  • Returning all Vans nightly after each shift (unless approved by Operations to keep the van overnight)
  • Adhering to all traffic laws and regulations
  • Using the Homebase App to clock in and out
  • Adhering to code of conduct as written (provided below)

Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Prior experience as a van driver or similar role preferred.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ability to safely operate a van in various weather and road conditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items as needed.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Under the direct supervision of the Operations Director, you will ensure a clean and safe space, prepare activities and materials for all ages and uphold Miami Workers Center values and practices.

  • Registration: Ensure parents sign-in + sign out when dropping off and picking up children
  • Organize and Structure relevant activities and materials for different age ranges (2 -15 years old)
  • Ensure clean interactive areas throughout the day
  • Keep records of any incidents or any problems that may occur and report directly to Operations
  • Provide first aid assistance and support if needed
  • Under no circumstances should any child be left unattended

Qualifications & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in childcare, babysitting, or related roles, demonstrating a genuine love for and understanding of children
  • Basic Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • CPR and/or First Aid certification (preferred)
