Eviction Diversion Project
Protection for Miami-Dade Renters and Families
Evictions, displacement and high rents are a widespread and urgent crisis in our communities. Miami-Dade’s Eviction Diversion Project protects your rights!
Renters have rights! Remember:
- Only a judge can force you out of your home. Your landlord is never allowed to evict you without a court order. If your landlord tells you to leave your home without the police present, you do not have to move out.
- Once you receive eviction papers from the court (summons), you only have 5 business days to respond in writing and tell the judge why you shouldn’t be evicted. If you disagree with the amount owed, you must explain why the rent amount is wrong. Contact us immediately to be connected with a lawyer.
- A landlord NEVER has the right to shut off your electricity or utilities while you are still living there.
The Miami-Dade County Eviction Diversion Project is a collaboration between Legal Services of Greater Miami (LSGMI), Miami Workers Center, Community Justice Project, Haitian Lawyers Association, Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association, The Cuban American Bar Association (CABA) Pro Bono and Miami-Dade County’s Office of Housing Advocacy.
If you are facing eviction in Miami-Dade County:
- Call the Miami Workers Center Eviction Hotline (786)-833-7078
- Talk to your neighbors. Ask your neighbors if they’re also facing an eviction, high rent, or have issues with their housing. Let them know they’re not alone and you got their back. We are stronger together than we are alone.
- Organize. Housing should be treated as a right, not a luxury for those who can afford it. If you and your neighbors want to unite and make changes, Miami Workers Center has your back and can offer consultations and trainings to make your tenant union effective.
We currently do not have live agents.
Leave a message with our hotline and we will get back to you.
